According to a recent report, retail email jumped by 19% in 2012 over 2011. That means that retailers sent 19% more promotional email to their subscribers than the year before. For all those marketers and technology “experts” who told us that email was dead over the last couple of years, it’s time to wake up and check your inbox.

Email is still the number 1 most efficient direct marketing channel. It’s usage is only going to rise again in 2013.

Are you on board? If not, here are a few things you can do today to join in the fun.

  1. Research email marketing vendors like iContact, Constant Contact, and Campaigner. Start by checking out this review of the top ten email marketing services.

  2. Talk to representatives from one or more of those companies and let them know you’re new to email marketing. They will help you strategize, determine how exactly you can implement an email marketing program that will fit your needs.

  3. Sign up and get started.
