There is far greater demand in marketing for specialists over generalists. In the majority of medium and large companies, there are several specialist roles for every generalist. However, generalists will always be better positioned for career growth over the long term. Specialties come and go, and the cream of the crop rises to the top positions within their specialty. But generalists are still needed to manage teams and lead organizations. These roles, and the people that fill them, will always be necessary.
