Do…incentivize people to sign up for your email address

Don’t…buy lists of email addresses you didn’t collect yourself

Do…use a trusted email service like iContact or Constant Contact

Don’t…add a bunch of names to your bcc list and blast from your personal email address

Do…make sure that your emails are easy to read on mobile devices

Don’t…assume that everyone reads your emails on a desktop

Do…include plain text in your email

Don’t…use all graphics so that people can’t read your email without accepting images

Do…send your emails from a recognizable email address

Don’t…use a stupid “donotreply@” return address

Do…track and report on email performance and use that data to guide future strategy

Don’t…assume you know what will work and what won’t

Do…test your subject lines, messages, promotions, and graphics

Don’t…ever stop testing
