Welcome to the latest edition of my new weekly blog series, “Free Marketing Ideas”. Each week I will identify and explain a simple marketing idea that you can employ at low or no cost. Last week’s topic was Add Your Business to Yelp.
This Week’s Topic = Start Producing Videos
Did you know that the number two search engine behind Google is actually YouTube? YouTube gets more searches every day than Yahoo or Bing. That’s all you need to know to understand the power that videos have in today’s marketplace.
But a presence on YouTube is not the only reason your company should be producing videos. With the rise in popularity of Vine and Instagram Video, and the move away from long form text content online, companies that are producing videos have a better chance of capturing the attention on consumers.
And getting started does not have to mean bringing in an expert video crew and paying thousands of dollars. You can get started with little more than a digital camera or smartphone and someone in your organization who can work simple video editing software like iMovie or Windows Movie Maker.
With only those tools, you can create simple video tutorials featuring someone in your organization. You can also create simple video slideshows, showing product shots and adding a voiceover to explain the benefits and value of your offering.
Another idea is to get your customers involved. Video testimonials, or live testimonials within larger videos can have a huge impact on your marketing efforts. Most satisfied customers will be happy to participate without getting anything for it.
The key is, just get started. Once you have videos, you can feature them on your website, on YouTube, Facebook, and other marketing channels. People are more likely to watch videos than read text. So give the consumers what they’re looking for.Share your thoughts on this idea, and other free marketing ideas in the comments section below and keep the conversation going!
