Little Things 12 – Phone Numbers

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Little Things”, a weekly blog series covering the small changes that you can make to improve marketing performance.

Last week’s topic was provide customer incentives.

This week’s tip:

Give a Phone Number

File this week’s tip under obvious, but often ignored. I could write a whole series on obvious but often ignored. But for now, make sure you provide a phone number everywhere you advertise.

That includes:

  1. Paid search ads
  2. Landing pages (really any page on your site should have an obvious phone number)
  3. Brochures
  4. Print ads
  5. Mailings
  6. Billboards or outdoor ads
  7. Free business listings
  8. Radio or TV spots

I realize that not every company is a direct marketing company that needs to track each and every action to see how many leads or purchases it got them. But why leave something as simple as the phone number off of anything that might attract potential customers?

One of the key aspects of marketing is to make it easy for people to take action. If your ad works, it will create interest. And you want it to be as easy as possible for a person to turn that interest into some form of purchase, trial, or further research. A phone number does the trick every time.
